The Child as an Instrument of Ideological Manipulation

The diploma thesis focuses on a child as a tool of ideological manipulation in interwar journals targeted to children readers, especially on ideological connotations in the journals. The thesis is divided into two parts. The theoretical part will deal with the meaning of the term ideology, its conceptions and values. Subsequently, the position of ideology in the society will be defined with the main focus on ideology as a system of communication. Furthermore, the concepts of individual political ideologies will be elaborated as much as schematization of ideology within the left-wing and right-wing political parties. To understand better the term ideology and to simplify the following process in the practical part of the thesis the historical changes of the ideology and its politicization will be described. Lastly, the perception of ideology in interwar period will be adumbrated. In the practical part of the thesis the chosen interwar journals targeted to children readers will be analysed in terms of ideology. The journals will be chosen according to their affiliation to certain, not only politically oriented, associations. The degree of political agitation and the use of a child as an agitation tool will be examined in these interwar journals: Anděl strážný (1882-1941, 1945-1948), Lípa (1925-1940), Malý čtenář (1882-1941), Rajská zahrádka (1892-1942), Růžový palouček (1921-1941, 1948/1949), Sokolské jaro (1936-1941), Svítání (1915-1918) a Zlatá brána (1919-1943).
Czech Catholic Magazines for Children and Youth in 1945-1948

The purpose of this thesis is to cover the topic of the Czech catholic children's magazines within the period of 1945 - 1948. Firstly the thesis contextualizes the historical background in the terms of looking back to the period of the occupation and then turns to the consequences that the occupation brought to the catholic population. Further the thesis offers an insight to the situation after 1945 mainly from the catholic point of view and focuses on the catholic press within the given period. In the next section the thesis characterizes the trends of the children's and juvenile literature in the period of 1945 - 48 through literary pieces, which form an integral part of the analyzed magazines. This part also deals with the general overview of the Czech children's and juvenile periodicals output within the given period. The main part of the thesis then characterizes and analyzes two chosen periodicals: Anděl strážný (The Guardian Angel) a magazine for catholic children and Dorost (The Juvenils) a magazine for catholic juvenils. This part of the thesis analyses the contents, structures and partly also the visual appearances of the chosen periodicals and tracks any changes of these aspects in single volumes. Marginally the thesis also mentions the editors and authors of the texts and illustrations....
Representations of ideological and national-formation consciousness in journals for children in the inter-war period

Bachelor's thesis will be dedicated to description and comparison of Czech children's magazines published during the interwar period, specific trait of which was their affiliation to different clubs, organizations or the church. Thesis will focus on specific journals, namely: Anděl strážný (1882-1941, 1945-1948), Lípa (1925-1940), Malý čtenář (1882-1941), Rajská zahrádka (1892-1942), Růžový palouček (1921-1941, 1948/1949), Sokolské jaro (1936-1941), Svítání (1915-1918) and Zlatá brána (1919-1943), and will follow the purpose of their origin, characteristics of the organizations they fell under. It will also observe the extent of ideological agitation in each periodical or eventually the symbols of national consciousness, which it will interpret and compare as possible representations of various ideological goals.
